Overview
Station X is an iPadOS app that facilitates children to learn about space and humans’ missions beyond Earth.
Our team incorporated a variety of features (animations, video/audio and games) to help this user group best engage in the learning materials. The application also personalizes users’ journey by letting users indicate personas of their preference (astronauts, engineers, scientists, …). Through research, our team understood that different ways of interaction keep the users more inclined to learn more about space.

Challenge
Space exploration encourages children to ask questions about the world around them.
Our team wanted to design a solution that provides engaging and educational content for children between 11 and 13 years old to learn about the missions associated with NASA JPL.
Leveraging the mobile app experience through a combination of features or functions presents an opportunity for kids to engage in space learning.
Ideation
After exploring different ideas based on research synthesis, a storyboard was created to help identify the scenarios when the users use the app and the important features that the product must have, as shown in the information architecture. This helped reflect the information from the interview and visualize the direction for the user flows and wireframes.
Reflection
As the pandemic pervaded globally, I have immersed myself into reading a lot more and I know that more people have also involved reading into their daily habits. Reading unavoidably helps people cope with their lack of interaction and provides a healthy communication with themselves and the world. I first came up with a social media for book readers inspired by the idea of building a network for people who wants to advance their reading habits without taking away the essence of the habit itself.
As a designer, this passion project gave me the opportunity to refine my skill sets in framing targeted users, project management and design tools. Through the design process, I was able to push myself creatively and feel more responsible towards users. I have also learnt that creating an end-to-end application is a strenuous process where each step shapes the design decisions and direction of the application. However, the hardships paid off as I learnt and built a solid foundation for the upcoming challenges. If I have more time on this project, I will build more features that allow auto-sort based on accumulated downloaded items and connections.
